Sometimes something shifts, and you're no longer sure who you are in the new situation. A separation, a new baby, a move, a career change, a child leaving home, a health change, or the end of a chapter you expected to last longer.
Change can be welcome, unwelcome, or both at once. Either way, it's common to feel unsettled. At Feel-Good Therapy, we offer individual therapy for adults going through life transitions, in person in Newmarket and online anywhere in Ontario.
How people describe a transition
"Something has shifted in my life and I don't know who I am anymore."
"I thought I'd feel relieved, but I feel lost."
"Everyone else seems to be coping better than I am."
"I'm stressed and overwhelmed, and I can't see what comes next."
Transitions we commonly talk about include separation and divorce, becoming a parent, changes in work or retirement, moving, and changes in identity or relationships.
How we work with transitions
Our approach is narrative and solution-focused. In narrative therapy, we pay attention to the stories you hold about who you are and what's possible. A big change can disrupt those stories and leave you without a clear one for the next chapter.
We ask careful questions to find what has stayed constant through the change: your values, what you care about, and how you've handled hard moments before. From there we explore a preferred story about where you're heading, one that fits who you are. Solution-focused questions keep us oriented toward the next small step.
You set the pace, and you won't be asked to share more than you're ready to.
