Relationships are some of the most important — and sometimes the most difficult — parts of our lives. When they're struggling, everything else can feel harder too.
Maybe you and your partner have been having the same argument for years without ever really resolving it. Maybe you've started to feel more like roommates than partners. Maybe a life change has put pressure on your relationship in ways you didn't expect, or something has happened that has made it hard to find your way back to each other.
Whatever is bringing you here, you don't have to figure it out alone. We're here to help.
Janice Chan, MEd, RP offers couples therapy using two of the most evidence-informed approaches available:
"At times, it can feel like you've lost yourself or that you don't recognize your partner anymore. I'm here to help." — Janice Chan, MEd, RP
We also offer therapy for families navigating difficult dynamics, significant changes, or communication challenges. Family systems are complex, and sometimes the most helpful thing is to have a neutral, caring space where everyone's voice can be heard.
Family therapy at Feel-Good Therapy is offered by Janice Chan and is suited to families with children aged 12 and older.
For families with younger children, we're happy to work with parents individually or as a couple to address parenting concerns, and we can offer referrals to practitioners who specialise in child and family therapy.
Couples and family therapy begins with a free 15-minute consultation — a chance to share a little about your situation, ask any questions, and determine whether Janice feels like the right fit. We know this takes courage, and we take that seriously.
For couples, the first session typically involves all partners together. Janice will take time to understand each person's perspective, your history as a couple, and what you're each hoping for from therapy. There's no judgment — Janice's role is not to take sides, but to help you both feel heard and to begin building a path forward together.
For families, the first session may involve the whole family or a subset of members, depending on what makes sense for your situation — Janice will discuss this with you beforehand.
Sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly or biweekly. Couples work is available both virtually and in-person in Newmarket. The pace and structure of the work is shaped by what you need.
