Individual Therapy

Something brought you here today. Maybe it's a feeling you've been carrying for a while — a low hum of worry that never quite goes away, or a sadness that's hard to explain to the people around you. Maybe you've been trying to push through on your own, and it's just not working the way it used to.

You don't have to keep doing that alone.

At Feel-Good Therapy, we offer individual psychotherapy for adults who are ready to explore what's getting in the way of the life they want — and to start writing a different story.

What Brings People to Therapy

Our clients come to us describing their experiences in all kinds of ways:

  • "I can't stop overthinking everything."
  • "I feel like I'm living under a black cloud."
  • "I'm so hard on myself — nothing I do ever feels good enough."
  • "My relationship is falling apart."
  • "I'm stressed and overwhelmed all the time."
  • "I've been through something difficult and I can't seem to move past it."
  • "Something has shifted in my life and I don't know who I am anymore."

Whatever language you use for it, we're interested in your experience — not just a diagnosis or a checklist. Some of the concerns we commonly work with include:

  • Anxiety and worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Low self-worth and self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and difficult past experiences
  • Life transitions and identity shifts
  • Anger management
  • LGBTQ+ concerns and identity exploration
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Parenting concerns

How We Work

Our therapists work from a postmodern, narrative therapy foundation. What that means in practice is that we don't see you as the problem — we see the problem as the problem. Our work together involves separating you from the difficulties you're facing, and exploring who you are beyond them.

Narrative therapy helps us look at the stories you've been told — and the stories you tell yourself — about who you are and what's possible for you. Through careful questions and genuine curiosity, we work together to find the parts of your story that haven't been fully heard: your strengths, your values, the moments when you handled something hard. We call these preferred stories — and building on them is at the heart of what we do.

Solution-focused approaches complement this by keeping us oriented toward where you want to go, not just where you've been. We ask questions like: What would be different if things were a little better? When have you noticed even a small exception to the problem? These aren't naive questions — they're genuinely useful ones.

We also weave in cognitive and behavioural theory and attachment-informed thinking where it fits, because we know that our experiences live in our thoughts, our bodies, our relationships, and our histories — all at once.

What to Expect

We know that reaching out for therapy takes courage. We want the process to feel as approachable as possible.

Free 15-Minute Consultation

Before anything else, we offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation. This is a chance for us to hear a little about what's bringing you in, answer any questions you have, and make sure we feel like a good fit. There's no obligation, and no pressure.

Your First Session

The first session is really about getting to know you — your life, your context, what's been hard, and what you're hoping for. We go at your pace. You won't be asked to share more than you're ready to.

Ongoing Work

From there, sessions are 50 minutes and typically weekly or biweekly, depending on what works best for you. We'll check in regularly on how things are going and adjust our approach as needed. This is a collaborative process — your feedback shapes it.

Virtual or In-Person

We offer individual therapy both in-person at our Newmarket office and virtually to clients anywhere in Ontario. Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, confidential video platform.

Our Therapists

Wendy Russell, MC, RP is the owner and clinical director of Feel-Good Therapy. With over 10 years of experience and specialized training in narrative therapy, emotionally focused therapy, crisis intervention, sexual trauma, LGBTQ+ counselling, and brief solution-focused therapy, Wendy brings both depth of expertise and genuine warmth to her work. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Yorkville University, researching narrative therapy approaches to anxiety and depression.

Janice Chan, MEd, RP brings compassion, creativity, and humour to her work with individual clients. She draws on an eclectic mix of approaches — narrative, solution-focused, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural, and dialectical behaviour therapies — to find the best fit for each person she works with.
